The former heads of departments of the already abolished Ministry of National Security, General Movlan Shikhaliyev and General Nizami Shirinov have been detained. The statement came from the press service of the Prosecutor General’s Office on April 5.
Both men were reportedly questioned at the Prosecutor General’s Office. The Nasimi District Court later remanded both generals in custody. The press service of the Prosecutor General’s Office reports that more information will be provided soon on the reasons for the arrest.
Since the country prevailed in a lighting campaign to re-capture occupied large regions of the country occupied by Armenian forces for nearly three decades, the government has embarked on a campaign in which an increasingly long list of high officials have been detained on charges of massive corruption.
