In Almaty, for several days, dozens of people have been coming to the office of the city’s prosecutor’s office demanding the release of their relatives, who are suspected of participating in mass riots in early January. Representatives of the prosecutor’s office accept their written statements, but in fact there is no change in the status of those arrested.
The father of one of the detainees said that his son Onal went to a peaceful rally on January 5, where he was injured, was hospitalised, but law enforcement officers took him from the hospital.
“On the 5th, he went to a peaceful rally, where he was shot in the kidney. Then he had a kidney removed at the regional hospital. On the 8th he was detained by riot police. Since then he has been in prison.”
