The turnout at the republican referendum on amendments and additions to the Constitution of Belarus as of 18:00 local time (coincides with Moscow time) was 78.61%. This was announced on Sunday by the chairman of the Central Election Commission Igor Karpenko.

“78.61% of the total number of citizens included in the voting lists arrived at the polling stations,” the head of the CEC said.

According to the commission, 78.89% of citizens voted in Brest region, 81.12% in Vitebsk region, 81.74% in Gomel region, 77.43% in Grodno region, 79.46% in Minsk region, 82.94% in Mogilev region, in Minsk – 71.37%.

The head of the Belarusian CEC noted that “the well-coordinated mechanism of all the people involved in holding the referendum made it possible to hold it in accordance with the current legislation without any incidents.” Karpenko recalled that “in previous referendums in the country, the turnout of citizens was 65% in 1995, more than 84% in 1996 and just over 90% in 2004.”

On Sunday, a vote was held in Belarus at the republican referendum on amendments and additions to the constitution. The voting ballot contained one question: “Do you accept amendments and additions to the Constitution of the Republic of Belarus?”

5,510 polling stations were opened in the country, more than 6.8 million Belarusian citizens were included in the voting lists. 42.93% of eligible citizens voted early in the referendum.
