Roughly 20 percent of households in Azerbaijan are living below the official subsistence level, Turan.az reported on Thursday, citing the State Statistics Committee. Those households falling in the sub-subsistence category were making an average of 177.9 manats ($104.7) per month in the fourth quarter of 2020, down from the subsistence level of 190 manats, Turan news agency reported on Thursday citing the State Statistics Committee.

The indicator exceeds an official poverty level of five percent.

Statistics also indicate a growing gap between rich and poor in the former Soviet country of around 10 million. Officially,  the richest 10 percent have incomes of more than triple that of others.
