The Anti-Corruption Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan has identified a group of officials from the Committee for Veterinary Control and Supervision of the Ministry of Agriculture, which organized a corruption scheme for receiving bribes from entrepreneurs for the unhindered export of livestock across the border, Kazinform reports with reference to the Agency’s press service.

According to the department, since June 2021, in accordance with the instructions of the President, the Anti-Corruption Service has been conducting a large-scale analysis of the scope of subsidies in the agricultural sector. Its goal is to ensure a transparent, fair system of granting subsidies, from application to issuance, to reduce corruption and bureaucracy, and to remove administrative barriers that impede doing business.

“As part of the analysis, signs of the activity of a stable criminal group were identified, consisting of a number of officials of the Veterinary Control and Supervision Committee of the Ministry of Agriculture and its territorial inspections. This group has organized a corruption scheme of systematic receipt of bribes from entrepreneurs for the unhindered export of livestock across the border. At the same time, facts were revealed of the export of state-subsidized pedigree livestock, the transport of animals without epizootic control, which could negatively affect the epidemiological situation, and so on,” the press service of Anticor said.
