Belarus and Azerbaijan managed not only to preserve, but also to increase their relations, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said on July 26 at a meeting with Azerbaijani Ambassador to Belarus Latif Gandilov on the occasion of the completion of his diplomatic mission in the country, BelTA has learned, TURAN reported.

Lukashenko stressed that good, close and friendly relations have been established between the peoples of the two countries. He noted that the Belarusian side, in turn, was worried about the conflict that worsened last year between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

“Mainly thanks to the position of Azerbaijan and your President, you managed to stabilize the situation and come to a peaceful settlement of the problems that existed. Of course, the path to peace has just begun,” the Belarusian leader stressed. “Both the Armenian and Azerbaijani people deserve a calm, peaceful life.”

Speaking about the development of trade and economic relations with Azerbaijan, Lukashenko noted that Belarus is always ready to provide technical and technological assistance. He thanked the Azerbaijani side for the supply of hydrocarbon raw materials to Belarus.

“You are fine fellows; you have not caved in under pressure from the Western states. You keep your word. As we agreed, you are acting. This costs a lot in the modern world. You can count on us, we are ready to implement the agreements that were reached during my recent visit to Azerbaijan,” the President said.
