Work on creating conditions for the transition to a low-carbon economy is being carried out in Russia, President Vladimir Putin said during a plenary session of the 17th Forum of Interregional Cooperation between Kazakhstan and the Russian Federation. The event is being held online, TASS reports.
“Our countries are solving a number of tasks to reduce the negative impact of human activities on the environment. We are talking about a transition to a new energy structure, which implies a reduction in the use of hydrocarbon fuels and an accelerated decarbonization of the economy”, – said the head of state.
He noted that this requires combining the efforts of the federal and regional authorities. Putin also recalled that Russia has adopted a federal law establishing the basic mechanisms of climate regulation, and a roadmap for decarbonizing the economy is being developed.
According to the president, the authorities are being stimulated, local businesses are increasing the share of low-carbon energy, more actively introducing technologies that reduce the carbon footprint in industry, and energy efficiency in housing and communal services is increasing.
Putin added that much is being done in the Russian regions to reduce the level of air pollution during the production and transportation of fossil fuels. In the field of oil production, modern and efficient systems for capturing associated gas are being introduced.
