The Armenian government controls the situation on the border with Azerbaijan and will not seek help from the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), Gurgen Arsenyan, a member of the Armenian National Assembly’s committee on foreign relations, told Russian RIA Novosti news agency.

Arsenyan participated Thursday in the first meeting of chairpersons of committees of CSTO member countries’ parliaments in Moscow. CSTO Secretary Stanislav Zas took part in the meeting.

“The situation in Armenia is complicated, but the authorities are keeping it under control,” Arsenyan said. He added that Armenia will not ask CSTO to deploy a military contingent “because of border confrontations with Azerbaijan.”

“The threat that exists is a systemic threat. We are able to cope with it. The strength of Armenia’s political leadership headed by Prime Minister Pashinyan lies in the fact that it prefers to regulate problems through negotiations rather than shooting,” Arsenyan noted.
