Writer, director, screenwriter and actor Yevgeny Grishkovets was elected chairman of the Public Council under the Federal Penitentiary Service (FSIN), reports Telegram-channel Readovka. Deputy Secretary of the Public Chamber of Russia Alexander Galushka said that Grishkovets is an authoritative person who is difficult to put pressure on.
However, human rights defenders think that the presence of Grishkovets advocating harsh punishments for torture does not compensate for the emasculation of civil society representatives from the council. The head of the human rights organization Gulagu.net, Vladimir Osechkin, called the composition of the council “a mockery.”
“It’s a pity, Grishkovets got in there for some reason. But this will no longer help them,” – said Osechkin.
