The decision was made at an extraordinary meeting of the Superior Council of Prosecutors (SCP) on March 23. The competition has already been extended several times.
The Minister of Justice Sergei Litvinenko, as well as members of the SCM Evgeniy Chebotar and Andrei Roshka proposed to extend the competition. Litvinenko noted that “because of the regional situation” they had not yet managed to create a special commission that would pre-select candidates. The Minister explained that the commission should include three international experts, but no candidates have been chosen yet. ( The special commission should consist of five people. One should be delegated by the president, one by the Ministry of Justice, and three more by the Supreme Council of Prosecutors)
SCJ member Eduard Varzar drew attention to the fact that the regulations did not clearly indicate that international experts should be included in the commission. He was also surprised that they decided to extend the deadline for submitting applications. Varzari stressed that the Council has already received two applications and did not rule out that the Council will receive more applications during the day.
