The US authorities have announced a reward of up to $5 million for helping the Treasury Department find assets “related to corruption and the government of the Russian Federation.” In particular, they promise to pay the prize to the one who names the location of the yachts of the Russian oligarchs, informs Independent.
Under the Kleptocracy Asset Recovery Rewards Program approved by Congress in 2021, a person can receive a reward for information that will lead to the seizure, restriction or confiscation of property. Under its terms, physical assets such as aircraft or yachts and financial assets must be located in the United States, owned by a US citizen, or owned by a US institution.
Earlier it was reported that the yacht and plane of the Russian oligarch Viktor Vekselberg fell under the new package of US sanctions. In addition, the financial guard of Italy arrested the yacht of Andrey Melnichenko, the former main beneficiary of EuroChem and the SUEK coal energy company. The value of the asset blocked under EU sanctions is €530 million. The yachts of billionaires Alexei Mordashov and Gennady Timchenko were also arrested.
