President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi spoke about the talks with German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

According to an UNIAN correspondent, Zelensky said this at a joint press conference with Merkel.

He stressed that he was pleased to welcome Merkel to Ukraine and thanked Germany for 1.5 million vaccines against COVID-19.

“Today we discussed … many issues, including the risks and the scale of the threats we have to respond to … We are counting on Germany, which we consider one of our key allies in Europe,” the president said.

Zelensky also thanked the German side for supporting Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, for a peaceful settlement of the situation in Donbas, and for not recognizing Russia’s attempt to annex Crimea.

“The priority topic of our talks was the process of peaceful settlement of the situation in Donbass. It is important that within the” Norman format “Ukraine, Germany and France have a consolidated position on the peace settlement plan, which should be based on clusters,” said the President.

In addition, he noted that the Paris agenda, which should be implemented, remains relevant.

“We strive for a permanent and permanent ceasefire, exchange of detainees, the opening of the CPVR by the temporarily occupied territories and the long-awaited access to the temporarily occupied territories by representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross,” Zelensky said.

According to him, the position on the need to hold a summit of the “Quartet of Normandy” is unchanged, and as long as there is no progress on this issue – the pressure on Russia must be maintained.

An important issue in our negotiations was energy security and Nord Stream 2. We are looking at this project solely through the prism of security and consider it a dangerous geopolitical weapon on the part of the Kremlin. sometimes, “Zelensky added.

According to him, Ukraine has an ambitious plan for green transformation, and also supports the climate ambitions of the European Union.

The President clarified that he and Merkel also exchanged views on the situation in Afghanistan and hope for peace there.
