The Foreign Ministry summoned the Hungarian ambassador over a gas supply contract with Russia bypassing Ukraine-UNIAN.UA

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine is summoning the Ambassador of Hungary Istvan Iidyarto for signing a long-term contract with the Russian Federation for the supply of gas bypassing Ukraine.

The spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Oleg Nikolenko told about it in the comment to the UNIAN correspondent.

The spokesman commented on the call of the Ambassador of Ukraine Lyubov Nepop to the Hungarian Foreign Ministry in Budapest.

“I can confirm this. The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry similarly invites the Hungarian ambassador to Kyiv to convey our principled position: gas transportation bypassing Ukraine undermines our country’s national security and Europe’s energy security, and Hungary’s new agreement with Gazprom deals a serious blow to Ukrainian-Hungarian relations. “, – Nikolenko emphasized.

He added that the Ukrainian side will take decisive measures to protect national interests.

Hungary’s reaction

Instead, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Siyyarto said that Kyiv’s reaction to the contract signed by Budapest with Gazprom was “outrageous.”

The minister added that Ukrainians have nothing to do with Hungary’s decisions.

“We consider it a serious violation of our sovereignty and national security interests to interfere with the secure gas supply of our country, the heating of the houses of the Hungarian people and the work of industry,” Siyarto said in a Facebook post .

The Hungarian Foreign Minister called Ukraine’s move “unfriendly”, especially given the amount of aid Hungary has provided to Ukraine.
