Ukraine will continue to help Moldova with energy supplies – Zelensky-UKRINFORM.UA

The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky had a telephone conversation with the President of the Republic of Moldova Maya Sandu: they talked about energy security.

This was reported by the Office of the President, Ukrinform reports.

The leaders discussed possible areas for further bilateral cooperation in order to prevent energy crises. Sandu thanked the President of Ukraine for timely and urgent assistance during the energy crisis that broke out in Moldova, in particular for the supply of gas and electricity.

“The President of Ukraine noted the readiness of our state to continue to provide assistance to Moldova in the proper supply of energy. To this end, the parties agreed to hold consultations in Ukraine in the near future at the level of energy ministers of the two countries,” the statement said.

In addition, the heads of state exchanged views on the project of building a bridge over the Dniester. Zelensky also discussed with Sandu the issue of cooperation in the field of European integration, emphasizing the need to ensure the most effective summit of the Eastern Partnership initiative, which will take place in December this year.

As Ukrainian News earlier reported,  Moldova declared a state of emergency on October 22 after its gas contract with Russia’s Gazprom, Europe’s largest natural gas supplier, expired late last month, and both sides failed to agree on details of a new long-term agreement.

However, on Saturday, October 30, the parties stated that they had agreed to extend the contract for the supply of Russian gas from November 1 for a five-year period.
