The Democratic Party of Tajikistan (DPT) criticized the statement of the President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov about the Murghab region of the country. The Tajik edition “Asia-Plus” writes about this with reference to the party’s statement .

Earlier, Japarov said that in 1924 this area was allegedly transferred from Kyrgyzstan to Tajikistan.

The Tajik authorities have not yet responded to Japarov’s statement.

The Murghab region is located a thousand kilometres from Dushanbe, on the territory of the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region of Tajikistan.

The DPT called Japarov’s statement “a violation of good neighborly intentions.” They stressed that “since the formation of Tajikistan as an autonomous republic of the USSR, the Murghab region is located on the territory of Tajikistan.”
