The first of 16,000 foreign volunteers are already going to defend Ukraine.

This was stated by President Volodymyr Zelensky in a video address to Ukrainians.

Ukraine receives weapons every day from our partners. From real friends. More and more powerful weapons every day. Ukraine already meets foreign volunteers who go to our country. The first of 16 thousand. They go to defend freedom. Protect life. For us. “And it will be successful. I am sure,” he said.

As UNIAN reported, on February 27, Zelensky called on foreigners to come to Ukraine and join the fight against Russian troops.

According to the Regulations on Military Service in the Armed Forces by Foreigners and Stateless Persons, approved by Presidential Decree of June 10, 2016 № 248, foreigners have the right to join the Armed Forces for contract military service on a voluntary basis, including the Armed Forces Territorial Defense Forces .

A separate unit of foreigners is formed – the International Legion of Territorial Defense of Ukraine.
